IMPROVED MIDWIFERY CARE AS IMPORTANT PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTOR FOR POSITIVE DEMOGRAPHY

The Maternity Hospital Foundation in cooperation with the Latvian Midwives Association, the Estonian Midwives Association and the Norwegian Midwives Association carried out an experience exchange project for midwives from June 2024 to May 2025, within the framework of which:

In November 2024, midwives from Latvia went on an experience exchange to midwives in Estonia
In March 2025, midwives from Latvia and Estonia went on an experience exchange to Norway
In April 2025, the first international conference for midwives “Whom do midwifes serve?” was held in Riga.

The project strived to achieve three main results:

  • Strengthened operational capacities of professional associations of midwives in participating countries and established sustainable cooperation network.
  • Support and guidance mechanisms for midwives in their continuous education and professional development process and ways how to access accumulated knowledge and skills of their colleagues abroad.
  • Positive impact on reproductive health situation and improved maternal and newborn care.
